Situated between the Larzac and Cévennes mountains, this exceptional site in the heart of the Hérault region is revealed after crossing arid plateaus. You’ll arrive at the edge of the Vis canyon, one of the widest in Europe! The Baume d’Auriol and Blandas lookouts face each other, yet are almost 1.5 km apart!
The Vis river is the source of this geological gem. The descent into the cirque de Navacelle and the village of the same name is truly enchanting. Every bend in the road offers breathtaking scenery. On arrival, take advantage of the coolness of the river and explore the narrow streets of this authentic Hérault village.
The Cirque de Navacelle is a UNESCO, Natura 2000 and Grand Site de France site. It offers remarkable biodiversity, with 25 species of protected birds recorded in this extraordinary place.
During the high season, free shuttles are available to facilitate access to the site. Leave your car at the Baume d’Auriol lookout parking lot, and let it take you to the village of Navacelle and the Blandas lookout. You’ll be able to discover this exceptional area in complete peace and quiet.
You can also walk down into the cirque. In this case, bring good shoes for the 2 km descent and 300 m ascent. The ascent can be made in the same way for the bravest, or with the free shuttle bus.

From the cirque de Navacelle, it’s easy to reach the Languedoc coast and its renowned seaside resorts such as Valras-Plage, Sérignan Plage and Portiragnes. En route, don’t hesitate to stop off at Saint-Guilhem le Désert, one of the most beautiful villages in the Hérault.
Lodève is also worth a visit for its remarkable architectural heritage. Near this town, classified as a Town of Art and History, the Lac de Salagou is a great place to spend some family time. This green setting is ideal for relaxing and enjoying a wide range of activities(water sports, hiking, mountain biking, via ferrata, etc.).
Still heading towards the coast from the cirque de Navacelle, discover Pézenas, “the city of Molière”, with its superb preserved historic center. 28 km further south, you’ve reached the seaside. Stop off at Sérignan, with its four beaches of fine golden sand, its old village and its marina.
Finally, just 6 km from Sérignan, the commune of Vendres offers unspoilt natural spaces between land and sea. The Etang de Vendres, the little port of Chichoulet and the greenway linking Vendres to Bayssan (14 km) are all must-sees.
